BeMe.com - Woman’s Reader’s Digest
A website with a style and informative for all women who like to read different areas from beauty to politics.
This can be considered under “smart woman’s choice” category. The site has undergone a massive redesign since its launch, but it is still has some way to go to be truly effective.
From the slow-to-load homepage, click on the picture of Björk, also known as Section Three or Home Life. Once in that channel, a menu panel on the left offers a selection of rather precious headings including Nurture (children, not plants), Grow (plants, not children), Love, and so on.
The design smothers what is at times good content, and it’s unclear for whom this site is intended – trendoids who might appreciate the stylised elements aren’t going to thrill to editorial gleaned from Woman’s Realm.
Thrive is the main health section of the site and features articles from the website’s correspondents as well as stories from IPC magazines. Dieting, alternative therapies, vitamins and supplements are typical subjects, and the quality of the writing and advice given varies greatly.
Eat (in) contains more reused material from the magazines, and although it doesn’t have a particular health focus, you may find articles describing the many varieties of salad leaves now available in stores or new chicken recipes to try.
Shop is a series of links to companies such as Think Natural and Nutravida. There is a food shopping section here, too.
Advice and Info ‘This incredibly valuable resource area is living proof of our commitment to making your life as easy as possible’. Perhaps a little overstated? Choose Health and Medical from the pull-down menu here and you can browse an A-Z of common ailments with advice on recognising symptoms and what to do when ill.
Other channels include News, Consumer Affairs (this is good and put together by someone with a wicked sense of humour), Culture and Trends, Entertainment, and a facility to personalise the site to reflect your own interests.
The chat sections of each channel are named after the rooms of a house such as kitchen in the consumer section and bedroom in Home Life. Try www.beme.com
